I bought this for a garage project where I wanted to mount a painted block of plywood to the wall. I used a washer with a 3/8" ID and 7/8" OD lag bolt. In my case I countersunk the screw in 3/4" plywood. I first drilled a 7/8" hole to 3/8" deep and then a 3/8" hole for the remaining 3/8" 5/8" thick drywall, drilled a 17/64" hole in the drywall and proceeded to drill a 2x6 hole that was behind the drywall. Then I started using my wall to drive two screws into a 2x6 -Drive bolts behind the drywall Panel attached to the wall and tightened with a socket wrench The wood panel will be part of the support for some of the water heater tubes.
