My log was too big to insert but too small without, so we had to adjust it a bit, but we managed by cutting the inner "fins" off the insert. As you can see we have collected many gems over the years and with this stand none of them get lost in the deep! There is also a great safety feature, but it is mentioned in the description: if something stops rotating in one direction, it will stop and move in the other direction to prevent damaging the tree or falling off etc! Great feature!
