We were forced to buy a rechargeable weather radio when a Formula 1 tornado with winds of 100mph, hail and heavy rain swept about 100 meters past us last week and left thousands without power around us. The TV meteorologist was telling people to take cover when the power went out so we had no idea what to expect. Our own house was without power for almost 19 hours and it would be great to know what's happening in the world or some music. We chose this radio because it also runs on AAA batteries and can be charged in a variety of ways. We charged it up straight away via the sturdy crank (it really worked! So happy!) and tuned in to the local FM radio and weather station. Extending the antenna helps. The transmitters were well received and the sound is really very good. Haven't tried charging a cell phone but the flashlight is quite bright. It looks solid and is compact enough to put in your pocket when needed. Hopefully we won't need it for emergencies but it was a good choice for us and very reasonably priced. I look forward to using it in gardening too!
