I really wanted this collar to work on my very smart Akita Malinois mix. I made sure it was positioned correctly and adjusted to the correct height every time I put it on. However, it took him 2 weeks to figure out how to get around this and keep barking. However, they lasted longer than the cheap ones, he sorted them out in a day. So for normal dogs and even for many "stubborn" dogs I give 5 stars. For ancient breeds that are genetically considered "free thinkers," this may not work for your dog. Therefore I give 3 stars or less for this type of dog. I still encourage you to try because you never know. What ended up working for him was a security camera and a mini-teacher. That's how I knew he got the solution he needed, when he needed it. This not only stopped the barking but also other annoying things he did.
