Pretty pleasantly surprised

I once bought a set of leather repair fluid in different colours. I didn't need all the colors and the material took on a hard plastic consistency after drying, not at all like the surface of my faux leather chair. I was disappointed and quite disillusioned with the leather repair kits. So, we have the leather sofa Vreta from Ikea. Whatever you say about most Ikea furniture, this piece was beautiful, comfortable and durable. That's why I was afraid of the wear and tear that I noticed on the most used seat cushion after years of continuous use in a family of 4 plus two cats. Eventually the seat got a small hole and I finally gave in and tried the leather repair kit (yes, this one). I admit I didn't have high expectations. The bottle isn't very big, but the goo is applied thinly and lasts a long time. I worked it on an ottoman with a small hole and a lot of abrasion and it dried tacky but even and black and almost exactly what I wanted. So I tried it on the couch. Fresh black couldn't compete with summer black with inevitable fading, so I covered the hole, the worn seat and everything that was visible to the very edge. This makes it consistent throughout the workspace, although it's a little sticky at first. I rubbed a bit with a cloth and the sticky texture didn't go away so we just used it as usual and sat on it with clothes on that make a noise when it comes off. Just two days later the stickiness seems to have gone and so far it's not only fairly durable but feels more like the original leather interior. Might take some getting used to, time will tell, but much better than hard plastic. So I'm impressed. I read the instructions multiple times to make sure I did what she suggested. The instructions mention a brush for small areas and a spatula for large areas, but my kit included a small plastic spatula. If you are working on a large area, do it in batches so the product doesn't dry out in lumpy gouges. Slime is a runny liquid, so give it a good boost with this tiny plate stick until it's smooth. Not sure if this is the best applicator but it works if you are patient. I haven't had a hole large enough to warrant support so I can't comment on how well it works, but it appears to contain a small tear at least for the first few days. It's really too early to say that this is the perfect solution, but compared to previous experiences, it exceeded all my expectations.
