100% necessary whether you have children or not!

No more denting the door edges or worrying about scratching other people's cars when the wind blows your door open and hits another car parked next to you! I've used this product before and it's the first thing I'll buy for a new car. It takes a little effort - your forearms may get tired during installation, but it only takes a few minutes. I install it and then pull it back a few inches when I get to the end (starting at the top of the edge I pull it on and work my way down to the bottom of the door) then just cut it off with a good sharp scissors. You don't need metal shears even with a thin strip of aluminum to keep it rigid. This pack was enough for 2 cars if you just place it from the bottom of the window to the bottom corner of the door. If the window doesn't reach the edge of the door you can stop it, but on my Chevy Colorado the edge of the tailgate is continuous - the window doesn't reach the edge of the door like it does on our Suburban or my old Cruz. I ran it up the rim and under the rim just for aesthetic reasons. I have used this product on 4 vehicles and it has never failed - never loosened - never just retained water or anything else that would damage the edge of the door. When I sold my last car I was curious whether there were still leftovers in there, tree pollen/rot - no - the edge of the door looked like new! Also, I didn't notice any additional wind noise/whistling while driving and that's due to the door. It fits PERFECTLY between that tiny gap between the doors - when you're pressed all the way into the edge of the door, which can be a little tiring, especially when you turn the seams along the edge - it handles the turns (maybe not 90* Turns, but smooth turns are ok) just great.

Pros
  • FLEXIBLE
Cons
  • Easily torn
