Review on ๐Ÿšด Garmin Edge 800: Cutting-Edge GPS Cycling Computer with Heart Rate Monitor and Speed/Cadence Sensor by Josh Reynolds

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great addition to the riding and training experience

Only ridden 200 or 300 miles on mountain and road bikes. I didn't have time to really test the battery life. Based on a 4 hour ride, I can expect a minimum battery life of 12 hours. Turning off the backlight and not using the wireless heart rate monitor and cycling sensor can improve battery performance. The GPS is perfect for my needs. My track is accurate enough to see when I'm driving on opposite sides of the same road, and it records every turn on the twisty solo track. Turn it on before you put on your gear (about 5 minutes) and the GPS is ready to go when you're in the saddle. The step-by-step guide works great for finding the shortest route home or finding somewhere nearby for food, water and/or coffee. Using the Edge 800 with Strava or Garmin Connect provides the added motivation to get out when you're not feeling motivated. With these apps, you can see how you're getting on with your friends when you don't always have time to ride together, or see how you're improving over time. Driving to work and in bad weather. I use the Edge without cadence and wheel speed sensors on a mountain bike and tandem (buy extra mounts or keep the Edge in your bag). A few minor issues: When I create a course in Garmin Connect and upload it to Edge, it seems to beat directions after directions. In this case, you should check the chart display to see how you went off course when you receive an off course warning. I've already lost the cadence magnet from my open hand. A thicker adhesive should be added to the magnet. My guess is that the contoured back of my crank combined with the taper of the lever towards the pedal didn't provide enough support for the included glue and zip tie combination. I look forward to using the virtual learning feature to give me a boost for next year's testing period.
