Review on πŸ”‹ Sealed Lead Acid Battery Charger - D1724 by Noah Warneking

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great SLA charger for the money.

Great charger. When connected to SLA, bulk charging starts at about 1.1A up to about 14.7V (on Fluke DVM). Once the battery voltage approaches 14.6, the current starts to drop rapidly, and when it reaches 14.7V, the red light turns green and it goes into constant voltage standby mode. I have two and one is set at 13.7v and the other is set at 13.75v (measured on the same DMV for several minutes). The current needed to sustain this particular SLA I was playing with was around 40mA, again on both chargers, but the 13.75v charger was hovering at around 45mA. I didn't open 1 amp blocks, but I did open 1/2 amp. The 500 mA version has two potentiometers. One adjusts the open circuit voltage and standby voltage, the other potentiometer adjusts the peak voltage. The 1/2 amp chargers I had were a bit weak for standby use. One was 13.25, the other 13.4. I ramped them both up to 13.5V at room temperature which is still a little low but without temperature compensation it's fine for standby on generators etc. QC could be better at the points given but they are under 20 Dollar. anyway only observations at 1A and 1/2A. YMMV.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Out of fashion
