The distiller is easy to use and makes water pretty quickly. We made maybe 6 or 7 gallons of distilled water and the water still tastes bad. I washed it with baking soda water and the taste hasn't gone away completely. I repeated the batch and it didn't correct the taste, although there was virtually no offal. I thought it might be the charcoal filters that come with it, so I ran it without them as a test. Each batch is better than the last but still has a slight "oily" aftertaste. I believe it is a by-product of the manufacturing process and will eventually disappear altogether. Taste is not an issue for us as we have not used it for drinking water, our tap water tastes great. We got it mainly for steam pans, radiators, etc. It had better get clean before we use it for Keurig or drinking, maybe another 5 or 6 gallons should do the trick. It seems to me that several 'brands' are actually the same machine, so I'd say just buy by price. If the flavor issue were resolved after a batch or two, I would have no problem giving it 5 stars; But if you need 40 or 50 hours of use before you get a useful product, you don't get 5 stars.
