I won't go into too much detail about the sound quality, but the reviews are correct. It's excellent and top notch for clarity. The problem I and many others face is clipping of low frequencies. When you approach a high volume, the drivers start to hum loudly. Sometimes not even at very high volume. I understand the drivers are 40mm in diameter, which is smaller than others in this price range, but I like them less because I'm constantly monitoring the volume and not the music. Instead of hearing the details, I hear the clapping. I don't listen to dubstep or hip hop or electronica, just rock and alternative and it's still happening. No gain, no EQ. I don't think I have a bad machine because both ears play it at the same volume. Focal stated that this was not seen as a flaw, but rather a design choice in favor of clarity, and their advice was to turn down the volume. Google "focus crisp clipping" and it's a lot more common than a few units and the MG update didn't fix the problem. Some devices don't, but most seem to do it. If you're a moderate listener or a fan of genres that don't fall too deep, by all means give them a try. Others can study them first.
