A must have for any toddler learning to play. Compared to most other similar balls, they are smaller, lighter and go further. This alone really makes batting more fun and gives him confidence when 3 year olds need it. We used to use bigger, heavier Wifle style green balls (another brand) and my 3 year old lost interest after 5-7 throws because he felt like he wasn't doing well. Then I switched to them and he started walking bucket by bucket. I don't know what the average kid's ability is, but by the time my son was 3 years old he could hit balls thrown smartly over 60 feet. Now he's 5 and I need the heavier green balls because he keeps crushing the lighter ones in the yard, over the garage/house and down the street. I also bought a second pack of 24 stadium balls which he will love to see come out of the infield. If your kid is playing in the yard I suggest hitting the net otherwise you might lose a few like me. I go between the heavier ones and these when he starts to lose heart (almost can beat the greens out of our yard but not quite). They're also good because they don't hurt when you hit them on the head. My son has hit me so many times while throwing a ball at him from 20 feet. head, face, lower. it only stings for a second. His little brother was also on the receiving end as he wandered aimlessly around the garden and they are far less painful than the heavier balls.
