Not a battery expert! This is my second battery. Purchased version 022-0157-1 in 2013. Died a few months ago. Rain and 100 degree days probably did it. Like things that last forever but 7 hard years is normal. This model has replaced the previous one. I have used deep cycle (lead acetate) trolling motor batteries for many years. In the past, a charger was used to quickly charge the battery. After switching to Battery Tender I noticed that my batteries would last longer (6+ years) instead of 2-3 years with my fast charger. I think slower charge rates and keeping "to the brim" saves batteries. It is also best not to discharge below 50% capacity. If the battery is really dead, it will not work. I still have the old fast charger to get started and then switch to the Battery Tender.
