I bought this because it fits inside the spring, not outside. I don't have a lot of room to fit a spring in my truck. I was also concerned that it might break on first use because I had read many other reviews of similar products where the screw threads were striped or claws grabbing the spring break. I was afraid that if it breaks I might get seriously hurt. I saw another reviewer's photo and turns out he used it for a quill as heavy as mine. My spring is 15" long, has 9 coils, and the coil is a 7/8" OD round rod. This is a strong spring. On the first try, the screw/all threads were difficult to turn and the block threads of the screw became very hot. I removed it and coated the threads and bearings with molybdenum grease. It worked and I was able to easily turn the bolt and compress the spring 1-1/4" which was enough for me. slip into my forearm and jack up to keep the spring from flying out. I was afraid to compress the spring any further because it would might break. After all it's made in China and doesn't cost much.Hope that helps.
