Summary of the following success story:1. Rite Dye Color Remover removed the previously dyed dress (2 months) and turned the dress from golden ivory to the original white color of the dress2. Used plate route with product3. TOXIC odor - outdoor use4. Happy backpacker, lots of hope, prayer and endless research through videos and blogs. My dress was originally dyed, but it wasn't ivory/vintage, more of a golden yellow shade. Remember this was the original fabric for my mum's wedding dress so I wanted to love it but just couldn't handle the color. After much research and prayer, I finally decided to muster up the courage to use Rit Dye Color Remover. The slab method works best because to be honest I just wanted to remove the paint and go back to the original vintage/aged cream color (predominantly blank canvas so I can paint properly). I followed the directions and boiled the water (since I was going to use my sink for washing, I boiled 20 cups of water in a spaghetti pot). Then I put 2 envelopes of Rit Dye paint inside. HOWEVER next time instead of doing this in the kitchen I would pour boiling water in the sink and then add Rit Dye - this stuff is POWERFUL AND TOXIC. Because of this, my house smelled like poison for 2 days even with the fan and windows open. However, it worked, so here's the lesson. In any case, I mixed the solution and added 10 cups of water (there should only be enough water for the dress, but remember that the hot water solution works best). With my heart on my sleeves and GLOVES on my hands, I soaked the dress in the sink and prayed that by the end of the day I would still have my wedding dress. I waved and waved the dress with a wooden spoon and pretty soon the gold paint could be seen washing away from me. Happiness doesn't even describe the moment. I had HOPE to wear my mother's dress again. After about 20 minutes, when I was sure the color was completely gone, I poured warm water and let the Rite Dye water drain. I gradually turned on the cold water until there was only a little left. I took my dress and hung it up in the bathroom when it was raining. Now it's time to let it dry completely so you can start staining/tea staining (that's a different but successful story). Note that the toxic smell will still be on your clothes, but if you dye/dye it (like I did) just leave it in the wash until fully fabricated. To get rid of the smell, I soaked the dress in water with washing powder and rinsed it out after an hour. Then he poured the detergent back in and rinsed. I did this about 5 times until the laundry was nice and the laundry was smelling and ready to be washed inside out. I stay away from the dryer so it was air drying. Kind regards! ^^^ This is the longest review I've ever written.
