Inexpensive and mostly works and looks good. I've been a practical cyclist since the 1970s. These days I walked 6-7 miles one way to work every day. These baskets are just perfect for a jacket, small backpack, sweater, books, laptop, U-lock and so on. Bought this one because I used to have the same one. I found it in a landfill a few years ago. He was hit from above and partially dismembered, punctured in his tires, and bullied from carrying heavy sharp objects. A thread and needle worth less than $1 that has been put back to good use. They lasted about 6 months until I overloaded them with books and other junk and they broke on a pothole along with a flat tire. Don't blame the baskets! So I've now bought myself a new pair of the same make/brand. Here are a few pointers, in no particular order. As usual, just my personal observations: - Each compartment fits just over 30 x 30 x 15 cm (12 x 12 x 6 inches). Nice. The luggage rack structure is shaped so the bag doesn't hit the tires (please read twice) to fit, but the spring-loaded trunk latch fits into the slot on the basket. That's the only mount I'm having trouble with. In other words, it slides. The material and finish has a waterproof feel, which is definitely fine for moderate rain, but I'd still use plastic bags for things that might get wet, just in case. I don't know how it can stand being soaked, hit by a heavy load and anything wet. If in doubt, there are silicone sprays to repel water - The lids close with a strap + latch, very quick and easy. There are latches under the top which become unnecessary on my spring loaded rack. With buttons on the sides you can attach it to the frame. I don't care, and if they run away, I don't mind looking like Dumbo once a year. - I have an extra lock to lock the basket on the counter when I leave it outside. - So the bag has a handle. You can take it to the grocery store. When it's full and heavy, I find it difficult to put it on the spring-loaded stand. Maybe practice makes perfect? I still just take bags of groceries and put them in baskets. My only concern is that the packs come with four stiffeners, plastic sheets that I have a hard time attaching. They slide inward, into the floor, back and front, giving the baskets a square shape. I have decided not to use them at all as they constantly make the baskets unwieldy. Without reinforcements, I can remove the panniers from the bike and stow them away to save space. Maybe in the end it won't be a problem. The rest of the assembly is extremely simple and practical. No secret pockets, no frills, no slide magic. I don't care what the baskets look like, they're black and gray. To me that just means good. In summary, I can only recommend it for a budget ($25-+/-) and use for moderate weight and comfort. As with other things in life, if you take precautions and treat it well, everything will be fine. If you put sharp objects on the floor and load it with a load, the bag can pierce, but that's logical, right? I think it will last for a long tour if you use it properly and don't abuse it.
