I put the back of the subway tile over my old ugly drywall but wanted to keep the magnetic strip I used for the had knives. Saves a lot of table space. It worked, but make sure you use the smallest bit. The larger ones go through leaving the hole too big for your screws. Learned this the hard way. On the internet you will probably read "duct tape where you want to drill". Well I did and it immediately slipped off. You need more than X, you need a good 4-5 pieces of tape then mark where you go. It's still tricky to do - you'll probably have to hold the drill in place for a full 5 seconds before it does anything. And be careful not to scroll all the way, you want your screws to be able to go into something.
