Review on KEF B1 Wall Bracket Silver by Amanda Mason

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good hardware and excellent cable management, but.

My 3 star rating is based on the KEF wall speaker mount, IMO, which doesn't have the ability to tilt inwards, tilt at right angles and stay vertical (I think I'm explaining it correctly ? ). Otherwise everything else is great. The mount allows you to rotate the speaker to slide it inward to create that speaker listening triangle we're all trying to achieve. However, when you tilt the speaker to point the tweeter/drivers toward your ears while seated, the speakers are not vertical and appear to fall and twist. Maybe it's my obsessive compulsive disorder for things like this and KEF probably designed it that way for tonal reasons, but I'd like to adjust them so that after adjusting the tip and tilt they still point straight up and down. Other than that (sorry for the long explanation), the mount is a very nice piece of aluminum hardware. It comes with IKEA (LOL) style instructions on the flap of the box, but installation was pretty easy and intuitive. The brackets came with some screws and drywall anchors, but they appear to have been designed for easy installation. I believe the KEF LSX weighs 7 pounds, but it felt heavier when I held the bracket against the wall (not yet screwed to the wall) and had the speaker attached. Based on that I decided to screw at least 2 screws (vertically) to the wall studs. I just felt that the wall anchors that came with it, or even if I upgraded to a beefier anchor, wouldn't work and those expensive KEF speakers would end up falling off the wall! So finding the studs was easy, but the hardest part was getting the stud to fit properly. Otherwise the bolt would block the wire hole in the bracket. With all that out of the way and enough room to drill a hole in the wall for the wires and clean the studs, it was very easy. through and into the wall. As you can see from my photos there are at least 4 wires connected to the speaker going through this rubber grommet. IMO it looks clean and simple and almost invisible. The wire management and the appearance of the bracket are its strengths. As I said, it would be nice to change the settings a bit. I probably wouldn't buy it again.
