Too wide for my teenage cat, and how to get your cat to wear a harness.

Keeps well away from the cat's neck, but the part that runs along the back is too wide. Because of this, the buckles fall below the elbows and impede movement. I think more for dogs. I'm not sure if the crampons are wide enough for this harness. For anyone with flat cats, here's how to climb over a hump. Break the process of putting on your seat belt into smaller steps. For example, in an emergency, the first step may be to simply place the harness around the cat's neck and not even fasten it. No matter what level the cat is comfortable with, neck, chest, whatever, do it and give that little piece you break off one of these soft cat treats. Do this a few times, you might make progress. Make sure the cat is still completely happy with the process. Stop while the cat wants more treats. . Incidentally, some cats may require you to work on accepting treats without using a harness! They won't all eat out of your hand. In fact, one of the originators of positive dog training says that getting a cat to eat out of your hands is half the training. The next day, start partially following the steps you took the previous day and move forward. When the cat finally puts the dishes on, toss a piece of treat on the counter in front of the cat. I hope she reaches the head and eats it. If this is too big of a step, go back and offer her treats from your hands. Once your cat puts on the harness and eats some of the treat, start tossing the treat within inches of the first one. Then further. And once your cat has associated the harness with a treat-seeking lynx, you can move on and so can I :-) (I used to be a certified dog trainer, but I've taught cats to do other things like sit, roll and jump.. .through hoops.) Because I know all the ways that harnesses can fit dogs badly. I've done this for several harnesses in a row, watching the harness and seeing my poor cat get uncomfortable! And all she seems to know is that whatever I put on her body means she gets a reward, even though she was moving pretty hard in the worst harnesses where the buckles were under her elbows!
