When Halloween came around this year we hooked up our inflatables and . promptly burned out our only exterior outlet. Never had that problem before, but we worked around it by running an extra long cord to the electrified shed . and burned that outlet out too. This was a much bigger problem, because the shed charges my other tools and it meant I effectively couldn't use any of them.It turns out that the original outlet was on the same circuit as the shed, but we didn't know that and couldn't tell if it was active or not. All that, and our outlet was actually the problem. That's when I decided to get a tester.Simply put, despite the implication it's going to tell you how much voltage is in a wire, it's really not reliable enough to trust your life with it. This is more to just ensure you know if the wire is "hot" or not. Would have been very useful to determine if it was a circuit issue or an outlet issue, as I was frequently flipping breakers to try to figure out what was wrong and rebooting my entire household (if you use smart devices, you know why this is a pain). For more reliable tools, look elsewhere.
