Comfort on and off the bike
I do a lot of trail maintenance but still prefer to use a clampless setup for riding. These shoes provide much better buoyancy than hard/hard shoes without clips. Allows me to get off the bike and fix things more conveniently. Not exactly the same as rocking hiking boots and flats, but pretty close.
