Brass model really is brass

A legend for at least 25 years. I just received my new copper version. Deep scratch tests showed that the lantern's body was indeed made of brass. Aluminum uncoated. The brass stock is approximately .032" thick compared to .040" on my 1970's version. A little thinner, but it's brass. The painted and anodized versions are made of aluminum with a wall thickness of approx. 0.042 mm including the coating. The original has an aluminum candle holder. The new brass version has an aluminum candlestick with a brass-like finish. Please remember I am not a metallurgist. Just a fool with a digital caliper. All in all, these are amazingly effective, simple little candle lanterns. Someone said plumber's candles would work. Well, not very well. They are the correct diameter, 1,250 inches, but about 11/2 inches longer. They fit well when cut. The bad news is that the wick is too big. You get double flames. That gives more warmth. The candle overheats and melts. It exits through the viewing window and the top of the candlestick. Big mess. Use UCO candles.
