Not a serious light source. Only good for emergencies.

Used in the mountains when hunting deer. The candle is practical, but actually only suitable for emergency lighting. The light is very dim and again only suitable for emergencies. Because the canister is very narrow at the base, it tips over very easily, causing hot wax to squirt into the interior of the glass bowl and making the light very dim. On a positive note, the sphere protects the flame from wind and rain. I would suggest changing the design to make the base wide (for stability) and…

Bought for my Bug-Out Bag

This lamp is as good as all the positive reviews say, so I'll spare the reader unnecessary extra praise and come straight to a design flaw in this lamp. It has very few moving parts, but I made the mistake of indulging my curiosity and taking it apart. Big mistake! I've been trying to piece this bad boy together using poorly written instructions (written in 7 or 8 different languages). It took me 15 minutes of swearing and guessing before accidentally putting it back together. My advice: DO NOT

Don't make the same mistake I did!

ATTENTION! The first time I used a lantern with a UCO candle during a power outage, the lantern worked very well, it was lit from a candle, but after about 3 hours the candle burned out and was drowned in the wax. It took me an hour to remove all of the old paraffin that made up the candle that came with the lantern. Shame on UCO for sending such a bad candle when there are so many other substitutes. Luckily I saw a review from UCO on YouTube stating that you should use either citronella…

Bad design? bad wax? Flashlight broken!

Well I researched this product before purchasing and read many reviews including quick melting smudges. I found some UCO citronella candles on the spot and took the white candle out of the box so I wouldn't make the same mistake as the others. I read the instructions over and over again and after making sure my flashlight was set correctly, I lit the blue candle. with great joy and anticipation that I shall be enjoying the success of the Lantern by so many other reviewers. After about 30…

DO NOT BURN YOURSELF! I HAVE MADE!

You really need to put a "DO NOT TOUCH WHEN IT'S LIT" sticker on top. I burned the shit out of my thumb. I thought the way to put out the candle is to roll up the frame and press the top after it's been lit for 30 seconds. I had a huge blister for over a week, the good news is I no longer need to have my fingerprints professionally removed as they have been burned. The folding function is also quite unsteady. It doesn't break down at all. The glass is wax splattered and fingerprint stained if…

Brass model really is brass

A legend for at least 25 years. I just received my new copper version. Deep scratch tests showed that the lantern's body was indeed made of brass. Aluminum uncoated. The brass stock is approximately .032" thick compared to .040" on my 1970's version. A little thinner, but it's brass. The painted and anodized versions are made of aluminum with a wall thickness of approx. 0.042 mm including the coating. The original has an aluminum candle holder. The new brass version has an aluminum candlestick…

Cons
  • No.

I had UCO flashlights for many years before spring came or I lost them while hiking at night. They have always been a good source of light. I've recently bought back both the brass version, which was original when it came out in 1971, and the much lighter aluminum version. Still the same product so far. My only question is why would they want to ruin it with a cheap oval sticker instead of the enamel paint they would use for the product name logo? On one of the original lanterns, in addition to
