The brand name soundbar we had with our 48" TV never seemed to provide any alternatives in sound and voice quality. There were 8 different modes but they all seemed about the same, a difficult problem for the hard of hearing in our family.This ZVOX version is not perfect though we are still learning it. However, adjustments are easy to make, create a different sound quality and help to make the dialogue much clearer on almost all cable programs and, so far, on Blu-Ray movies.In clearing up the background sound to get the dialogue stronger, the words can come out a bit tinny and the sound varies depending on where in the room one sits. For us, the real factor is that it is clearer, if not cleaner, than a typical brand sound bar and that makes the difference and makes this a quality unit especially at the discounted price we paid plus coupon.There are several adjustments that can be made for things like surround sound and an option to allow the soundbar to turn on automatically when the TV comes on versus not permitting that. The unit is a nice size and we have it placed directly in front of our TV which sits on a stand.
