Review on Jillmo Stainless Steel Fermentation Kit for Wide Mouth Mason Jars - Complete Fermenting Set (Jars Excluded) by Esperanza Hernandez

Lids can leak if they're too tight, good if you're on a budget.

I had high hopes for these fermentation lids. I bought and compared this and another more expensive brand. The more expensive brand is plastic, and the sleeve on the lid is about twice as thick as this one. When I assembled this thing, the grommet popped out. Therefore, you must hold it with both hands on either side to securely place the sealed fermenter funnel in the sleeve. About 6 hours into the fermentation I noticed liquid at the bottom on the outside of the jar. The lid didn't seal even though I tightened it. I removed the cap, checked the seal, put the cap back on, tightened, then moved it back about 1/2 inch. No leaks so far. The top of the fermentation kit is exactly the same as the more expensive kit. I'll go ahead and save them based on how I've used them. But due to the fact that the quality of the cap, bushing and gasket that makes up your gasket isn't as high as a more expensive brand, I have to say I won't be buying these again. Maybe plastic covers are different and better? Maybe I'll try them at 1pm and see if they're better than the metal lids. With that in mind, if you only want to use them 1 or 2 times, you can be patient and pay very close attention. Or if you're on a budget and just want to try fermentation to see if this method works for you. They're affordable and will last for multiple doses of what you're cooking. So it's not a total loss. Just make sure they're airtight but not too tight. Hope this review helps. Happy fermentation!
