Review on 🔧 Superior Tool Company 03943: Compression Sleeve Puller & Remover for 1/2-Inch Fittings by Ray Mcknight

I was looking forward to using this to tuck some corner posts under the sink. It seemed like a great solution to a crazy old miter stop design using brass tips crimped onto copper tubing. What seemed like a quick and easy task turned into a major hassle. When I inserted the barrel into the compression sleeve and started twisting the center push rod, the sleeve would not dislodge. The more I twisted it, the tighter it got. After several difficult corners, I could barely turn it by hand. I used a wrench and hoped it would loosen soon, but the wrench just deformed the T-handle. After a lot of effort I gave up and sawed off the coupling from the hot water pipe with a hacksaw. However, after I sawed off the coupling, there wasn't enough pipe to attach a new corner stop. So I had to cut a hole in the drywall above the sink and run the new copper pipe up to the corner (I used Shark-Bite fittings which made the job a lot easier than having to sweat through the copper connections). I examined the tool (see attached pictures) and saw that the pusher had deformed the edge of the copper tube. The copper buckled around the tip of the pusher and I suspect this kept the tip from slipping off. Maybe there's a trick I don't know. The design seems like a good idea, but it definitely didn't work for me. Mine is only $0.02 - mileage of others may vary. - Carl
