A grinning tool for a hideous task!

After having to cut through an overtightened bushing to remove it, I looked to Revain for a tool for the job and purchased a superior 03943. I love quality tools, especially ones that do chores like this Removing compression rings loosen in tight spaces is a useful task. This is an incredibly well designed and built tool, built to tight tolerances and costing twice what they charge for it. In one instance, the tool easily dislodged a ferrule that was so tight that the ferrule failed to…

Work most of the time EXCEPT.

If there is not enough space in front of the valve then this tool simply cannot be used as it requires 4 or 5 inches of clearance in front of the valve (where the pipe goes). For that I give 4 stars. Adding to this disadvantage, it pulls the nut (and therefore the compression ring) out with ease. I've replaced over a dozen valves and want to use new nuts and new copper rings. This tool makes the job so easy. I can imagine a case where this thing got stuck and the handle couldn't be turned…

Didn't work for me

Can work in working condition. Let's face it, when we need this tool, it's usually not an ideal situation. That didn't work for me. The compression sleeve did not move. The cuff was draped over a CPVC pipe, like a ring on a finger in summer. The CPVC was crushed by the compression sleeve, leaving a dent in the tube. (picture ring/finger). Unlike meat, the tube is not compressed to cause the sleeve (ring) to slip off. CAUTION when using a puller: Unscrew (remove) after a few turns and check if…

What I needed best in pullers

I had to replace the stopcock with a toilet because it started leaking. When I removed the valve, the existing yoke (thrust sleeve) and nut would not come loose. I tried using it with the new valve but water leaked out. I had knocked very little copper out of the wall so I didn't want to risk cutting off the tip and damaging the pipe I had. I was looking for Revain and bought this tool. I have to say he did a great job removing the brass tip. You simply screw in the swivel nut at the end of the

Great tool that I couldn't find at my local stores

This is a great addition for a homeowner who needs to replace some toilet/sink water valves. As some others have written in their reviews, this is not a large, robust tool that would suit someone in this profession. There are other options that are much more expensive for this purpose. However, as a DIYer, I have found this tool to be very effective and can offer some advice. Use sandpaper to scrape the copper pipe from the existing ring to the edge. The pipe should look like new when you're…

The tool is jammed. Big disappointment

I was looking forward to using this to tuck some corner posts under the sink. It seemed like a great solution to a crazy old miter stop design using brass tips crimped onto copper tubing. What seemed like a quick and easy task turned into a major hassle. When I inserted the barrel into the compression sleeve and started twisting the center push rod, the sleeve would not dislodge. The more I twisted it, the tighter it got. After several difficult corners, I could barely turn it by hand. I used a

It's not that fast! on Tools & Equipment

For decades I've hated, hated, compression fittings, especially in the form of angle stop local shut-off valves for all manner of plumbing fixtures, such as sink faucets and toilet fills. I hated installing those compression fittings, spent ugly whole days working hard in horribly cramped spaces trying to get the fittings to fit really tight in the pipe and stop the leak; and I hated taking them off, spent many awkward hours trying to take them off without damaging the pipe only to install the…
