These are real pieces of driftwood that come in a variety of original shapes and sizes. Gives an aquarium or terrarium a natural character and appearance. Pieces of driftwood are hard and mine tends to sink into the water on its own. They need to be dipped in a bucket of water for a few days to wash plaque off them. Otherwise, the aquarium water can become cloudy due to washing out of the coating. One of the negatives would be that I noticed a thin slimy film forming a day or two after leaving them in fresh water. I can only imagine what it would be like if they stayed in an aquarium. This can possibly lead to algae growth in the aquarium. I have used them to expand my terrarium with just plants and soil.
