Neat little set. good for power tools and hand tools

These chisels don't shave very sharply out of the box, but that doesn't matter much. The hammer is also a bit smaller than I expected for some reason. But they seem to be decently well made little tools - I find this to be a good set to start with craft woodwork. I think you just need to grind the edges on a thin stone or ribbon with some sort of polish.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Very expensive

They work, they're good, not great.

work as intended. I refined them before using them, although they're probably ready to use right out of the box. I had to clean up a few grooves so I didn't want to risk a bad result. The hammer is good. The grain wasn't optimal, but still. This is a mass production hammer. It works as intended. Chisels are clean, no scratches or tools. For basic woodworking, they're a solid value.

Worth the cost. in wooden chisels

Good chisels. Although the hammer is terribly complex. The handle sits VERY badly on the head and is just as badly glued. I bought this set because I'm just getting started and the chisels in this set are cheaper than buying them individually. I also needed a hammer. I leveled, reprofiled and sharpened all 3 tools in about half an hour. In hindsight I would buy a larger set and buy the hammer separately.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence

Great Tools - Hand & Power Tools

I love that these chisels come ready to use. They don't need to be pre-sharpened. They are strong and durable enough to carve the tough wood of the mesquite tree. My only complaint is that the adhesive holding the hammer head to the handle ripped on the first use and the head almost fell off the handle. Only wood glue and a well-placed nail can fix it. Otherwise I would give this set 5 stars. I would recommend this set.

  • Sturdy Construction
Cons
  • So-so

Carefully check the description

reviews and ? where not in stock, when I decided to buy, they were not loaded, I decided to take a risk? remained unanswered until after purchase, the main description says 4 pieces, that's what you get, can't see where the list sizes end with a hammer 3/8.3/4.1" chisel not very useful for me for 1" and then A hammer is a cheap throw but overall the chisels appear to be of good quality but be careful they are for hammer use only and no hammer will see how they hold up.

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Expensive

Very Bad Hammer - Hand and Power Tools

The chisels in this set were fine, the bevels were even, the corners were sharp, there were no nicks on the bevel. With a bit of sanding and buffing to make them flat and smooth they would be good value for money. The hammer just shits on a stick. The only good thing about the hammer is that the head is made from quarter-sawn beech. The mortise and tenon connection was terrible, large gaps in the connection due to poor quality of work. This whole set is coming back and I will buy the chisels…

Pros
  • Hands Free

  • No Instructions

I saw this and noticed the price of $35 for 3 Irwin chisels and a mallet. I thought it might be a bug. I know Irwin isn't the same as he used to be, but I'm not a professional carpenter, let alone an advanced amateur. These are very good chisels. They also come in a nice case that contains them all plus a hammer. They were pretty sharp out of the box. Sharp enough that it didn't take me long to REALLY sharpen it. It actually took longer because I did 25 degrees and they seemed to be at 30+…

Sloppy Boomerangs: Wooden Chisel

I paid $50 for this set but if you want to buy them wait until they are $35-40. The day after the purchase, the price fell again. Even with their issues, they'll probably still make a good starter kit. Cons: - The oil from the blades started to corrode the handles leaving blue goo on everything (see photo) - The blades are in the shape of a boomerang (see photo) - The handles were very dirty and the blades were all scratched from the factory - The hammer is made for people with square hands…

Good/Excellent for the price

Pros: They are sharp and have a good angle. Reasonable cons - you don't have a good finish on steel - the finish is actually terrible - came with such a bad belly on the back I thought it was a bow, alignment of the back took a long time and wet (20 mins each, at 80 grit just to make it flat) Other thoughts - the hammer was small and cheap but I didn't have a hammer and it works like a decent start. . They are good enough that I don't have to worry about wasting time leveling them. However I…

Great entry-level chisels that can last forever

It's rare that you get an entry-level tool set that isn't filled with junk that you need to replace when you really start working with it . But this is an exception. The set includes three chisels and a hammer. The chisels are good, a hammer is a hammer. When you're just starting out, all you need is a way to sharpen them past the factory edge. (Planers and brushes need to be sharpened right out of the box before you can use them effectively.) come in a case good enough that I decided to keep…

Pros
  • Wood chisel

  • So far so good
