Review on Sony 100Mm Macro Digital Camera by Wayne Ohlrogge

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sophisticated specialty lens

This is my fifth Sony lens purchase. I always buy cheaper brands like Sigma but inevitably go back to Sony. At the very least, I expect the Sony a65 firmware to fix many of the lens' minor flaws. Reading the reviews I have the feeling that Sony lenses are a bit better, but I've never tested other brands to be sure. I can say that I have never been disappointed with Sony lenses. I've been thinking about a true macro lens for a while, but was also very hesitant to buy one because I wasn't sure I would actually use it all the time. a lot of. I shoot a lot of flowers with a friend, but I don't need the close-up range this lens offers. However, I got a great deal on a used lens through Revain (my first used lens purchase) and decided to take the plunge. few photos). It's too chilly for insects (and so am I, being new to macro photography), but I did get some shots of holly berries. As others have pointed out, given the extremely shallow depth of field, macro photography is extremely difficult. A light breeze blew, which tested my patience. I was struggling with manual focus - or so it seemed to me - so I switched to autofocus with the focus limiter, with some success. Ironically, the manual focus lenses were better, although it wasn't noticeable when looking through my tiny viewfinder. Of course, this lens is also a fixed focal length lens. It's not like 100mm is a great length for general use, but I can say this lens is really great in that role. I took a few shots of the Confederate tombstones with my Sony 75-300mm zoom lens, which looked fantastic until I compared them to photos taken with the Sony 100mm macro lens. Wow! The contrast at 100mm is much higher and just blew me away. It's very sharp even at f2.8! I chose 100mm to increase my macro distance. I do not regret it. However, the Sony 50mm macro would be a good choice, as it is better suited for general use and according to reviews it is even slightly sharper than the 100mm. My next purchase will probably be a quality monopod. because I hold this lens in my hand for macro photography. age very quickly. I thought I had a strong hand, but I had to think again.
