This Garmin GPS was my choice as I live in Mexico and need a GPS to navigate urban areas. I had it for nine months.1. Maps of Mexico are about 85% accurate for major cities. Sometimes they try to steer you the wrong way on one-way streets and give you confusing directions at intersections. Some streets do not appear on the maps and the names are sometimes misspelled. Also, Mexican street names are often combinations of words, but Garmin can't figure out which street you need, even for major roads. However, in the convoluted, congested Mexican cities, this is a big help in getting you where you want to go. In major cities, a Garmin GPS will usually get you within 2-3 blocks of any address and within 1 block of most. Between cities, the maps are much less accurate and do not include some of the major four-lane routes (such as the MX145). Outside of any major city, the details fall off quickly. So while GPS can replace the Guia Roja street atlas of a major city, it cannot replace the Guia Roja street atlas of Mexico. can be trusted to navigate between them. The Garmin 260W also struggles to find satellites with no obstructions and at 20 degrees north latitude where the satellites are almost directly overhead. Sometimes Garmin takes 3 resets and up to 30 minutes to find satellites. There is no predictability in this regard. Maybe someday a better map of Mexico will appear. Combined with a GPS that can reliably find satellites, this would be the best option.
