Bought a set of straight grooves to help remove a bad spark plug. I was installing new spark plugs on my ML63 AMG (M156) when I was applying too much torque and one of the spark plugs broke in half leaving a thread in the head (the clicking is the worst). I searched the internet for solutions and found this set, I figured why not try it, still better than $5000 pulling heads on an AMG. Shipping speed was great, shipping from US to Saudi Arabia took 5 days. The next day I woke up early in the morning, grabbed my tool bag, duct tape, WD40 and a rubber-headed hammer. I compared the size of the ceramic insulator to the extractors to determine which size to use. I wrapped it in tape to attach the extractor to the outlet. I used #5 at first but it didn't bite and I didn't want to use force. Then I tried #4 and it immediately bit into the strands without even touching them. However, I tapped it lightly with a hammer to make sure it was tight, then went in with a 3/8 socket wrench + 6" extension + U-joint + 10mm 12-point socket. When moving, I noticed that the resistance to turning decreases :), which indicates loosening of the thread. And Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God)! The threads have run out! Luckily the thread didn't snap, the fork failed before removing the head Some points: I used WD40, I don't need it, but I think if the spark plugs are rusty/old you need a penetrating oil. 2- Gently tap with a hammer, gently without hitting. Do it slowly and steadily, do not use force, lightly tapping the wrench with a hammer (counterclockwise) may help. 4- Spark plugs - NGK Iridium if that helps or makes a difference. Much luck!
