Revainrating 3 out of 5

i want you to like it

I got this because we have a 1/4 mile driveway and I need to know if anyone is at the gate. He advertises a 2 mile range - that should be over water because he barely makes it at 1/4 mile and I need to place the receiver in a location that will receive but not where we want/need it. The waveform they use is free for public use - and there's a lot of noise on the channels. I tried all the channels, there are 5 of them - and each of them has noise, either repeated clicking or it sounds like someone is repeatedly pressing the PTT button. That, and I live in the center of BFE, so there aren't many people around - I literally have no neighbors, and the frequencies are still being used by someone, or it's just noise on those channels. It's really annoying and we have to turn down the volume on the receiver to deal with the hiss. I'll try to turn off the antenna on the receiver, we have a steel roof, and it is clear that this reduces reception, physics. etc. But we have a cheaper Guardian unit that does it ALMOST 1/4 mile without the need for a remote antenna and constant background hiss. I will try to lengthen the antenna but projects take way too long to mess around with. I'm going to connect the internet to the gate via WiFi cameras and a bridge, and that will reduce our need for that, but for now it's working, if a bit sketchily at best.
