I think that's exactly what they are, plastic paper plate holders. You can't get too excited about that. They are reasonably priced so you don't pay a lot for them. They're not heavy, why not just use a plate; I find the rigidity of the holder just right. Overall I think they work well. Now many people ask if they work in the microwave. I've used them a few times in the microwave with the squirt glass lid on top (the glass actually touches the plastic) and they stood up well. The timer was set to a maximum of 1:30. The plastic didn't feel weak or melt. Now I think if you leave them there for a long time then there will probably be different results, but I think just a quick warm-up is fine.
