Tried many variations of this for my standing shower. The drain cap was old and rusty and eventually fell off. I can't afford to hire a plumber to redo the top of the drain as that would require removing and re-routing the pipes and re-lining the area around the hole. I have very long, thick hair that really clogs drains, so I didn't just want a drain cap, I wanted something that would let the hair slack before it becomes a problem. A plumber suggested this kitchen sink drain cover and with a little ingenuity and silicone it works great in my shower. Hasn't rusted or caused any problems and it has enough holes to let water through but catch hair. Easy Day! The nice thing about this is that it's cheap so if/when it fails all I have to do is pry it off and then the silicone in the second.
