At first our 3 year old golden retriever was afraid of the bell. By the end of the night she was ok with that and ready to fondle him. It just took a lot of treats and patience. And now she's going to fondle him on command. Then she might do it to let us know she needs something. We really enjoy this as a fun learning tool. Looking at her paw is so cute! If she ever gets into that in the future, we can just take her with us and tell her that the end result (like going outside or maybe getting a treat) isn't an option right now. I preferred that to the bells that hung on the door. At the moment we have one by the food bowl and one by the back door, we ask that you ring the bell to get one of them.
