Review on Schumacher DSR108 450A Batteryless Starter by Pat Peoples

Revainrating 5 out of 5

16.3V Net power 2Wh

Device tested and loaded with a constant 50W load and it took 143 seconds to any level of 9V which I think is useful for starting the car would be limit. That's about 2 watt hours. The total output power up to a cut-off voltage of 6V was 2.46Wh. It is a lightweight and easy-to-carry device with cables connected directly to the device, which is a bit easier to handle than other types with separate switch controller and cables. The input current is also limited to around 10A by the battery cables, as is the 12V auxiliary plug input, so our charging isn't as fast as it could be if they allowed faster charging speeds, but it's quite fast. It will charge within 3 minutes and indicate all the power LEDs will be solid when you're done. The V8 Mustang started by itself after loading, even with the extended start time since it hadn't started in a while. I like these devices because they don't degrade over time and heat up like battery type jump packs do and should work most of the time unless you're dealing with a dead battery, in which case this will not be the case. You really shouldn't be driving in this case because driving without a battery after starting is bad for the electrical system.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Crumpled
