Review on ๐Ÿ’ง Enhanced Sawyer MINI Water Filtration System for Improved Filtering by Ameen Bethea

Great compact filter for hiking, especially as a gravity system.

This is a great option for a light and compact filter! I was looking for a new hiking filter. I have used various gravity and pump systems in the past and wanted something smaller and lighter that would fit in my backpack. I don't expect to use it on a water bottle as it feels a bit uncomfortable for me. I was a bit apprehensive at first because I thought it would only work as a compression system, which as some comments indicate, seems a bit slow or clunky at times. After using it as a squeeze filter with the included pouch as well as the platypus pouch, I was pleased with the speed and ease of use when squeezing. However, I think this filter really shines when used as a drip system (see attached images). I've used it with a 1 liter platypus bag and found I can hang the filter bag on a string with a canvas clip. and let it gravity filter into a bottle of Nalgene. If I place the bottom of the filter right into the rim of the Nalgene bottle, the wind doesn't blow it out of the way and I can do something else while my water is being filtered. 1 liter is filtered pretty quickly and it's a lot more convenient than holding it in your hands. I only keep the filter, backwash syringe and platypus bag with ropes in my backpack bag. I tied the cord in a loop with a strained hitch so I can quickly adjust the height of the filter when throwing it over a branch so the filter hangs right in the top of the bottle. I found the flow to be quite adequate as you can see from my photos. I rinsed again after the first use as recommended and then about once a day on the trail after that. As for the issue some had with the threads leaking, I had some trouble when I first tried to attach it to my put bag and platypus bag. I've found that you need to be careful to keep the threads straight and not skewed. Once I got it lined up correctly, it worked very easily every time thereafter, with no leaks. I've used it for several gallons of water on the trail, averaging 5 or 6 liters a day for drinking and cooking.
