Food tastes like chemistry

I am very disappointed. We've used it a few times and it still smells like chemicals and the food tastes like chemicals/plastic. We had to take it to the terrace to use it because the house smelled so bad. The house didn't smell, but the food still tasted terrible. I'm not sure if that applies to all deep fryers or just this one. It was a waste of money and we will probably return it.
