I've watched some YouTube videos on replacing these racks. Believe me, it's a lot easier than you imagine. All you have to do is stick a small flat head screwdriver under the small spring steel band on the stand and pry it up (you will need pliers to remove the band). Once removed, simply remove the end of the strut from the round ball joint. Do the same for the other end and "Taa-daa", you're almost done. The new block really just snaps into place. A YouTube video showed a man struggling to "halve" the springs of a spare part. No worries. They easily slide into place. Pull on them, but they go with no problems. This item comes with two different sizes of interchangeable ball joints. I didn't need her. If you have rust, though, it's a good idea (especially for a $28 part). One final observation: Most of the 15 minutes I spent on this work was finding a footing to keep my hood fully upright. The shafts on these struts are fully extended, so your hood must be fully vertical when installing. My canopy isn't high enough for this, so I had to drive out of the canopy. I've heard rumors that original frames only last a few years or so. Even if it's true, they're so cheap and so easy to replace I'll find out.
