Of course, this is just a hair heavier than carbon fiber, but one of the ones that I found after much research to be the most compatible. I wanted something that would be light weight, and foldable. Having a cork handle was also important to me to avoid the BPA in plastic (yes.I'm overboard, but you don't have to me ;-) You should see the way I eat. LOL). Anyway, the poles are reliable and well made. My only gripes are these: 1. tightening the screens to keep the poles from collapsing required a stronger hand than I was able - so until someone was able to help me, they kept closing on me. Once tightened properly, they stayed in place. 2. The shock to my forearms and elbows was noticeable to me - possibly because I'd never hiked with poles. I don't plan to use them on every hike, only the harder ones, so I'm comfortable with the compromise. Overall not having hiked with poles in the past, I can say I'm in love with how much of a difference it makes on the decent. There was only one other brand I considered, ultimately, but unfortunately it arrived too late.
