Good concept but bad design of GPS mount

[Issues I've had with this GPS mount may be unique to my Garmin 2455 GPS. May work with other GPS models.] ISSUE 1: The Garmin 2455 can be used without a power cord, but the power cord must be plugged in to use the motion detection feature. The power cord connects to the GPS socket located on the bottom left (front view) of the unit; The power button is on the bottom left (Photo 1). To ensure a minimum distance between the connector and the handle of the GPS mount when accessing the GPS power button, the GPS must be moved to one side (Photo 2). In this misaligned position, the fang on the opposite side of the GPS mount will not provide a reliable GPS lock. (Photo 3) QUESTION #2. There is a 1 x 3 inch non-stick gel substance on the bottom of the GPS mount. The bottom of the GPS mount is flat, rigid and non-segmented. It was difficult to find a good flat surface for the device's non-slip gel to hook into the heavily contoured front console of my cars. A flexible segmented floor surface would be a better design. Also, these gel-like "non-stick" substances usually lose their effectiveness as dust builds up on them. BENEFITS: The clamshell design is compact, easy to store and is likely to fit many GPS navigators - unfortunately not Garmin. 2455. . The concept is fine - maybe just a few tweaks to the great design of the GPS mount.

Pros
  • Springlock holder fits all 3-7 inch GPS and mobile phones with a unique non-slip jello block under the mount that sticks to the dashboard (removable and easy to clean with water) Easy to switch from car to car car. The sandbag's weighted body and non-slip bottom ensure the device stays on the dashboard while driving.
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
