I've reviewed several different models of electric coffee grinders but it looks like you'd have to spend a fortune to get something that doesn't feel like one sounds jet engine. Also, the more expensive grinders seem to focus on espresso, which doesn't interest me. I do Aeropress and occasionally French Press, but to be honest I really don't like French Press because of the sediment. In the end I decided on this coffee grinder. based on really positive reviews and the fact that I'm the only coffee drinker in the house. I don't need an expensive electric meat grinder for one person. It's really high quality, all metal except for the transparent disk and the wooden handle on the coffee grinder handle. I didn't take it apart to clean it, and like the other reviewer, if that doesn't become a problem I probably won't. I've been using it twice a day for a couple of weeks now and I shone a flashlight in there and saw almost no reappearance there. I used a brush to scrape the bottom of the grinder and the inside of the catcher cup and tapped it with my hands to get rid of any loose particles, that's all. For Aeropress I followed the guide and started at 24 and it works. Works great for me, although it's quite finely ground, almost powdery. I could experiment with the grind size a bit, but this setting seems to make for a great cup of Aeropress coffee. It takes approximately 75 turns of the handle to grind 17g of beans when the grind setting is set to 24 for approximately 1 minute. I've found that the faster you grind, the more turns it takes. So it seems best not to work too fast. I've also ground my French Press a few times and found it to grind unevenly on coarser settings. (46 - 50), contrary to other reviews. Pretty much fine grind mixed with excellent grind in a French press. On the other hand, I've never seen a grinder capable of producing an even grind on coarser settings, so there can be penalties at any price. Also, no grinding manual was included with the kit, which some reviewers mention. Mine came with a card that has a QR code that you can scan that links you to the online version of the manual. From there I had to search the site and finally found the grind guide buried all over their blog section. It would be nice if a printout of the sharpening instructions were included. Another annoyance: the drip tray tends to collect finer grist inside, likely due to the texture of the metal and the 90-degree bottom angle. From a technical point of view, it would be better if the cup was made of smooth glass with rounded edges. Despite these problems, highly recommended!
