Review on DieHard 71522 140W Power Inverter: Unleash Unlimited Mobile Power! by Steve Snyder

Revainrating 5 out of 5

good little device in starters, chargers and portable power

I was satisfied with this inverter for car use. It worked both while driving on the road and when camping with the engine running. The DieHard inverter comes in a hard plastic case that needs to be opened with a knife. Once you've removed the inverter, all you have to do is plug it into your car's cigarette lighter socket and plug the other end into the device you want to charge. The small fan inside the inverter can be heard as white noise. Not very loud, but noticeable. A small green light indicates when the device is connected and ready to use. Advantages: The DieHard Inverter is very easy to use - just plug and play. I used it to charge my iPhone, Kindle and Toshiba netbook. You can use AND charge your device at the same time, which is a nice feature. I really liked the choice of charging sockets in two sizes. You can plug in your USB of choice or a regular three-pin connector for small devices. 140W is enough power for small electronics that I want to use when traveling or camping. You exit the car. Cons: The inverter is a little cramped in the cigarette lighter socket and you have to plug it in well (I drive a '97 Jeep Cherokee Laredo). However, when driving on a washboard or undercoat, the inverter fell out of the socket several times (quite suddenly). I don't think this unit was built for off-road use, but it's something to be aware of. Since the inverter only puts out 140W, you need to be careful about which devices you connect to charge. I don't think that's enough power for high-powered appliances like vacuums, coffee pots, blenders, or microwave ovens. I'd settle for electronics unless you know exactly what power consumption capabilities something has. Conclusion: The inexpensive DieHard 140 Watt Power Inverter covers many basic needs and is a very good device for travelers. Budget. If I ever had to live without electricity in my house (be it due to disaster or financial problems) this inverter would provide excellent and constant backup charging for all my electronics. I could even save money in my daily life by getting a free charger for my phone and such every time I drive instead of having to use an outlet at home. I recommend!
