Review on Cisco Linksys WET11 Wireless Ethernet Bridge by Lloyd Rodriguez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Economical but quirky and dated

This unit is a great concept and was the perfect choice a few years ago. The concept is still great, but there are better options than this. The main problem is that the technology is outdated. Since it's pure 802.11b, it still runs at 11Mbps at best and can be half that in actual use. There are other variants of 802.11a and 802.11g that are many times faster. Other specific issues I've had with this model, and the reasons I'm calling it unusual, are: Broadcasting your SSID. If both devices have the same SSID, this is not necessary and less secure. b) If you want to use a channel other than 6, you need to change it from infrastructure mode to special mode, change the channel, and then change it back to infrastructure. c) It could not connect to my AP when the AP was in 802.11b/g Mixed Mode. I just had to change the access point to 802.11b. If I were to buy another wireless bridge, I would choose one that is 802.11g compatible.

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
