Missing links work as advertised. Very easy to use. I wipe down the chains on 4 bikes (1 is ten speed, 3 is eleven speed) every 250 miles so those links make the job easier. It is possible to work "without tools", but missing link pliers (get one for remove and replace) is the easiest and in my opinion the best method of removal and installation. I tend to buy reusable links. They cost a little more, but can be reused multiple times, making them cost-effective.
