The padding is not thick at all.
The description says a thick premium pad. It's definitely not premium and certainly not bold. I received it today. Not used yet. I can see it's not thick so I decided to put this new one on top of my old ironing pad that had flattened from years of use. A new filling alone is not enough. Another thing I would like to point out is that the two latches are not adjustable so they just "hang" under the iron but do not hold the lid in place. The only thing holding the case in place is an elastic band sewn to the edge of the case.
