Normal for a small amateur flashlight, bad magnet.
Magnet is not strong enough for the weight and torque of an industrial lamp, but may fit a small hobby lamp. It can be screwed to the table from above, but it is easier and cheaper to weld a small piece of square tubing to the table. It came with a piece of foam that would be good not to scratch the surface you are attaching it to. At the same time, foam rubber also reduces the effectiveness of an already weak magnet.
