Please understand that this is a 12 inch fan with more than adequate speed for its size. It has 2 speeds, the lowest is pretty quiet. A higher speed increases the volume, but is not annoying. It only consumes 27 watts of power, which is quite little for the amount of air. Now if you want quiet, go to the wall world and buy a 20 inch box fan for $20 and watch the blades spin. You don't get any air, but it's fairly quiet and would make a lovely addition to a sparsely furnished apartment.
