I bought these shears to cut a 3 room Hardie Backer board (19 sheets ) to cut. I mostly cut out 1/4" and while it's not recommended, I do cut out a few 1/2" (0.42). 1/4 inch cuts through warm butter like a hot knife, only slower. The lines are easy to trace in any direction, except for the curl, which appears about every 20cm. You can move fast or slow as the trigger has variable speed. The tool is quite heavy, although most of the weight is on the material used. As long as you hold the tool flat on the cement board and cut fairly straight it will cut very smoothly and produce a very clean edge with almost no dust. It's loud as a 1/2 drill and very light on your body. Slam dunk for 1/4 stuff and although it cuts 1/2 it's a lot slower and they do one for thicker stuff. For round holes and curved lines, buy a Bosch cement board jigsaw blade ($10) and a vibrating jigsaw ($30 up to 20% off). After cutting 19 cement boards of different thicknesses, the scissors practically do not wear out and are preformed like new. If your body is beat up, old, or you just don't like a noisy room full of cement dust, these scissors are worth every penny. You made the hardest part of the project so much easier. I highly recommend these scissors!
