Review on AEM 30 2131 100 PSIG Brass Sensor by Paul Beach

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good but expensive and (for me) missing parts

I recently bought this unit to connect to a Raspberry Pi so I can control the water pressure in my house. The 0 to 100 psi range is ideal for this. (Reminder: This sensor measures pressure relative to the ambient air, not absolute.) The sensor I received works and is of acceptable quality. A set of automotive quality connectors is included (more on that later). The sensor requires a 5 volt power supply. The signal is read from a single pin that outputs a voltage ranging from 0.5 volts (0 psi) to 4.5 volts (100 psi). I connected this sensor to the +5V output pin of my Raspberry Pi and it behaves as expected, outputting a signal voltage between 0.5 and 4.5 volts depending on the pressure (which I'm currently reading with an MCP3008 ADC). transmit power + signal). I found that I had to place a 0.1 microfarad capacitor on the input pin of the MCP3008 to stabilize the signal. (Note: I attribute the need for coverage to the noise generated by the MCP3008, not the sensor. I also had to do the same for the local TMP36 sensor.) I agree with the other commenter that the documentation is in the actual box is a little light. Fortunately, more information about the sensor is available online. Note that you will need a crimping tool (and possibly a lot of patience and care) to assemble the connector. Be careful not to make a mistake - replacement pens are not included. However, I had a problem with my item and that's why I'm only giving it 2 stars. The plug kit (included) that I received contained the wrong number of gaskets, which prevented me from assembling the plug as described in the assembly instructions. In particular, the outer seal is missing on the plug, which means that the connection is not sufficiently protected against oxidation. About a week ago I tried to contact the manufacturer to request a replacement gasket but received no response. -- EDIT: About a week after posting, a seal came in the mail from AEM. No response to email etc - it just showed up in the post. The fit and tightness of the plug is now much better, which is why I upgraded my rating to 4 stars.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
